Not only did John come up with a unique theme for an arcade cabinet, but he also went the extra mile literally "sculpting" custom pieces for his build.
In a move some might say more foolish than bold, RetroBlast frontman Kevin Steele is handing over the keys to the RetroBlast.com website to a bunch of slack-jawed ...
This little gem was spotted on 9th Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues in wonderful New York City. Too bad some jackass decided to tag it just a short while later. This is the type of grafitti the world should be subjected to. Not some illegible spray painted crap that has nothing to do with art and everything to do with criminal violence.
Social networking is certainly nothing new, but a social networking group dedicated to arcades just might be.
Jeff Rothe of Rotheblog fame has discovered a diamond in the ruff known as diigo for which he has taken the opportunity to create a specialized group specifically for arcade related media.
"Once you sign up for a free Diigo account, you can then join groups of your choice. I have started the ‘Classic Arcade’ bookmarks group with the hopes of learning from other collectors and drawing new ones into the fold."
This is an awesome idea! And something that I think many of us can get on bored with. We're all a pluthera of information in this hobby, but no single one of us can know all of it, or remember that one link that we found that one time that gave us that one bit of information about that one board. This might just help.
June's EGM will be a huge retro issue talking about 35 retro revivals that are in the works, including the famed Splatterhouse:
"Splatterhouse is arguably the first survival horror game ever. Sure, it was a bit heavy on the horror and light on the survival, but it's hard to come up with an earlier example of a game with as much bloodshed and terror as this arcade beat-em-up. Purveyors of violence and filth that we videogame folk are, we couldn't be more excited to present the exclusive reveal of Namco Bandai's next-gen resurrection of the Splatterhouse franchise in the upcoming June issue of EGM.
But that's not even all! In addition our world exclusive first look at Splatterhouse, we've got updates on Bionic Commando, Street Fighter IV, Tecmo Bowl, Golden Axe: Beast Rider, Sonic Unleashed, Alone in the Dark, Alien Crush, Space Invaders Extreme, and Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix (including the first look at a popular red-haired baddie). Heck, we have even more than that. Retro is the flavor of the season, and EGM has all the scoops you need to get full."
So apparently I was under a rock or something because I had no idea that the Hollywood Powers That Be would even think of making another run at Street Fighter after the lame, poorly acted, lame, horribly scripted, lame, under funded, (did I mention it was lame?) last attempt at Street Fighter The Movie, but apparently they are.
This time, they're brining in Smallville hottie, Kristin Kreuk, aka Lana Lang, to play Chun Li in what's being billed as part of the 25th anniversary celebration, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li.
So you know, I'm a guy, and I notice things like Kristin's body, and I gotta tell ya, she doesn't have the thighs that Chun Li has, and I'd really hate to see her try and get those thighs. But man, does she have the eyes. Her eyes are just awesome!
Via Kotaku: The gang has discovered an old book titled Where's Sonic? created in classic where's waldo fashion. Check out those classsic 2-D graphics!
"Found in a drawer and from Sonic's mid-90's heyday comes this, Where's Sonic? It's a picture book where you, un-huh, look for Sonic. The 2D drawings are spectacular! Click through the gallery below to find Sonic. Maybe you won't. There are no guarantees, really."
Have you looked in your drawers lately? No not those drawers, I'm talking that junk drawer that has stuff that you've kept since you were a kid. I happened to be at Mom's last week and she pulled ou this old box of crap of mine that she's been saving from my childhood.
Inside were pics of me playing with a handheld Pac-Man in my Pac-Man jacket and Pac-Man hat. If you've got pics of yourself back in the day with all kinds of memorabilia, hit the comments button and post it up for us to see!
From the "Why Not?" category comes a gang of modders that have taken a fully functional Nintendo Entertainment System and managed to compress it down into a Nintendo Cartridge.
A Mario Bros. cartridge even! Now you can leave your bulky NES at home and just throw your cartridges, cables, and controllers in a bag and off you go, ready for NES action anywhere there's a TV and a power outlet.
A new World Pinball Champion took his throne a couple of weekends ago at The Pinball Hall of Fame in Las Vegas. Bowen Kerins from Salem MA competed against 63 other world class pinball players to win the tournament and push his top 15 scores above anyone else in the world.
