Not only did John come up with a unique theme for an arcade cabinet, but he also went the extra mile literally "sculpting" custom pieces for his build.
In a move some might say more foolish than bold, RetroBlast frontman Kevin Steele is handing over the keys to the RetroBlast.com website to a bunch of slack-jawed ...
Console Classix have been renting classic console titles via their unique online service since early 2001. Now, in tribute to 30 years of console gaming they're opening up their NES, Coleco and (of course) Atari 2600 libraries to the general public free of charge.
"Console Classix was founded to help preserve console gaming history," says Aaron Ethridge, Owner of Console Classix. "The 30th Anniversary of the Atari 2600 is an exciting event, and I'm very pleased that we can be part of that legacy. By offering the games that made Atari great, we allow veteran players a chance to relive the past and provide younger gamers a chance to see where today's games were born. That is what Console Classix all about … preserving what the gaming industry has produced so it can be enjoyed throughout the future." Console Classix currently offers more than 3,000 games for nine different classic consoles available to play on a Windows PC, with new games being added on a weekly basis.
"GameConnect, the premier yearly event for Australia's game development community, is held this year at the Melbourne Convention Centre from November 15 to 17, and includes speakers from Microsoft, Sony, Pandemic and Konami"
Of special interest to us Retro-Gamers is this little tid-bit of information:
"The Gamerz Bunker stand will be running a Mario Kart competition, and visitors can also sample retro consoles such as the MegaDrive, SNES and N64, or take a trip back in time at the History of Gaming display."
So if we've got any Aussie followers out there that live near Melbourne and are planning to attend, we'd love to get a hands-on account of the activities and perhaps a run down of the History of Gaming display.
It's that time of year when I start getting all kinds of junkmail both physical and electronic.
This one just happened into my e-mail box by chance. Brookstone is offering up the Class of '81 Galaga/Ms. Pac-Man that we've all seen many times in the past for the low, low price of $2995.00 U.S.
If you're so inclined to purchase this beautiful machine, they are also offering a hideous (IMO) Pac-Man Cocktail at the same price.
Someday, when I'm rich and powerful and have my own office, I'll be able to afford one of these and I'll put one in the breakroom for all of my minions. Muhahahahaha!
In keeping with the Halloween spirit today, I present to you Pac-Man Pugs as seen via Kotaku:
Obviously those are either very weak dogs, or the ladies thought their dogs were actually herculian and could carry the weight of a bunch of plywood and stuff.
He's got the shirt, the tie, the beard, the hair, and even a King of Kong Hat!
Mitch, you get the RetroBlast! Award for Originality my friend. Of course that award is just figurative in nature, because um, we don't have anything to really give you, heh, but you get the idea.
And attention all you would be Trick Or Treaters. If you plan on dressing up and going out tomorrow night, either to a party, or taking the kids around the neighborhood or the ever so popular pumpkin smashing, and you've got a costume that is connected to retro-gaming in nature, we'd love to see a picture!
Have you ever wondered who would win the fight if your gamerooms' pinball and video-game machines suddenly came alive and attacked each other? Don't be embarrased - of course you have!
Well stop wondering and have a look at this gem! 1UP and GameVideos.com have unearthed this amazing video which prooves that this battle actually took place back in the 80's.

Some visitors may already be familiar with Belgian RetroBlast member "Darth Nuno" from his Dragon's Lair Fans/Arcade Lifestyle website and his epic Galaxian Theater project.
He recently attended the Preview 2008 Coin-Op Expo in Hammersmith, UK and has posted tons of photos of up-coming commercial coin-op toys for you to drool over! Among the new arcade hardware are several promissing new games including Sega's After Burner: Climax SDX, Let's Go Jungle and Sega Race TV, Taito's Chase HQ 2 and a the latest revision of Global VR's Aliens: Extermination.
The North County Times out of California has a nice write up on a recent Super Auctions event that took place recently in Temecula.
From reading through the article, it would definitely appear that the current 30-something generation that grew up in the 80's and 90's spending more time at the mall in the arcade than the library has definitely come into their own and are still nostalgic about owning a piece of their childhood and teenage years.
There was another Super Auctions this past Saturday in Detroit, but sadly, I was unable to attend to get a run down on pricing and what condition and price things went for. But, if any of you readers happened to be there and can give us a rundown on what happened, feel free to hit that little Discuss Button down there and fire up a conversation.
