DIY LED Joysticks
Francis Wood, Tuesday, 27 November 2007

DIYLEDBadgeFrancis Wood a.k.a. Franco to you BYOAC users has come up with a little how-to on taking your joysticks and modifying them for custom LED balltops.

Check out the article as Francis does a quick how-to on taking a pair of Sanwa sticks and modifying the shafts to allow for an LED light to be implanted.

Nice job Franco!

MAMERoom: 10% of Sales Go To Charity
Nick Greeley, Tuesday, 27 November 2007

MAMERoomVia Arcadecontrols.com:

"Scott from MAMERoom posted this note this evening: In addition to offering a 10% off discount during the holiday seasons (coupon code XMAS), Mameroom designs will be donating a portion of all sales to the Tay-Sachs foundation.

Tay-Sachs is a nasty disease that strikes children in the first few months of life and is always fatal. You can read a bit more about it on the National Institute of Health page about the disease."

Good on ya Scott.

MAMEWorld Updating Again
Nick Greeley, Tuesday, 27 November 2007

MAMEWorldAfter a good long hiatus, Mameworld.net is now being updated again.

Roc himself has taken on the challenge, and challenging it us, believe me.  It's tough to come up with enough news to keep you lot interested.

Here's what Roc had to say:

"It's been a long time (still not heard from KC), so I am taking things into my own hands and getting this lack of news sorted.

Stay tuned for regular updates starting in the next few days.

Time to get MW back on the road again as the best place for MAME news!"

Best of luck and welcome back MAMEWorld.net

Atari Joystick Coat Hanger
Nick Greeley, Tuesday, 27 November 2007

AtariJoystickCoatHangerRetroMC himself found this cool idea. Take those old worn out and busted joysticks from your old consoles and make them into a coat hanger for your gameroom.

I'm sure there's some Wicos just laying in a closet somewhere that would make a good coat hanger.

Or how about a few 2600 joys that have died and gone to heaven.  Now they can be resurrected as a nice game themed feature for your game room.

TAB Austria Virtual Pinball
Nick Greeley, Tuesday, 27 November 2007

TABAustriaVP Well, um, I wouldn't exactly call it a thing of beauty, but it does look like we have another entry into the world of virtual pinball.

TAB Austria is showing pictures of their 42" touchscreen driven virtual pinball machine coming stock with 6 tables and capable of being used to play other action games outside of the pinball arena.

Personally, I think I'd rather have an Ultrapin sitting in my basement, but the concept of a mult-tasking machine that can also play other games via a 42" touchscreen is very intriguing.

The Shredz64 Project
Nick Greeley, Sunday, 25 November 2007

Shredz64Well here's something you don't see everyday, and here's an excellent way to re-purpose that old C-64 you might have sitting up on a high shelf in the garage collecting dust.

Toni Westbrook has taken the time to interface a PS2 Guitar Hero controller with a C-64 and then build, from scratch, a Guitar Hero-ish type game to use the controller with.

From the site:

"The Shredz64 project is an attempt to build an interface to connect the Playstation Guitar Hero controller (and any other PS controller) to the Commodore 64 computer, then create a Guitar Hero like game on the C64 utilizing the guitar controller."

Thanks to RetroBlast! regulars Danny_Galaga and RetroMC for pointing this out to us.  Like them, I find these ways of coming up with new ideas for old equipment very interesting and fun to watch unfold.

Nick Greeley, Sunday, 25 November 2007

Freebox JukeboxBarry Barcrest, the creator of Freebox Jukebox dropped us a line this past week to let us know that he's offering a discount to RetroBlast! readers through the end of December, 2007.

Now, through the end of the year, RetroBlast! readers will receive the normally priced $25 licensed copy of version 3.0 for $15.  Just be sure to mention RetroBlast! in your PayPal payment and you'll be all set.

If you're not familiar with Freebox Jukebox and are looking for a way to play your albums either on your arcade cabinet or perhaps looking to build your own jukebox, be sure to check out at least the demo.

Barry is faster than lightning when it comes to updates and is already fast working on version 4.0 of the software.  I've not found another jukebox software developer who is so responsive and quick to support his end user community.
