Not only did John come up with a unique theme for an arcade cabinet, but he also went the extra mile literally "sculpting" custom pieces for his build.
In a move some might say more foolish than bold, RetroBlast frontman Kevin Steele is handing over the keys to the RetroBlast.com website to a bunch of slack-jawed ...
Admit it, you're tired of having a plain old white Wii. You wish that Nintendo would start releasing the console in all kinds of pretty colors so that you could at least have the darn console match the living room furniture.
Ok, well, maybe not, but perhaps you've got a kid who's entire bedroom is Mario themed and you'd like to give the Wii that extra touch.
Check out this instructables.com article on how to do just that. Ok, so that article is more about adding the charger and base to your Wii, but it gives you some great shots of the custom paint job and mods for this one-of-a-kind Wii.
RetroBlast faithful, Jamie , sent us this cool little project he put together. For his birthday, being the consumate retro-geek, he received a LED pinboard kit from EvilMadScientist.com and decided what better way to use it than with a retro gaming theme!
After some blood, sweat and tears he managed to throw together the resulting sign with a very powerful message to anyone who might wander by!
Then, on top of all that, Jamie went so far as to actually blog his progress for us to read and relive along with him. Hey Jamie, I've got a few projects that I'd like to have you throw in that magic pillow case of yours and whirl around a few times.

Australian Gamers rejoice! March 6th through July 13th, the Game On exhibition is taking place at the ACMI (Australian Center for Moving Image) in Melbourne, Australia.
"..the action-packed celebration of games culture that has thrilled over one million players of all ages around the world. Game On tracks the development of videogames from the first computer game to arcade-era hits and the very latest from today's billion dollar industry.
Original illustrations by Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto and concept sketches behind classics like Tomb Raider and Grand Theft Auto provide unique insight into the creative process of game development. Rarely-seen consoles, controllers, arcade machines, packaging and collectables are brought together in a showcase of game history like no other."
Man, am I jealous. Somebody needs to get over there and get me some pictures, and t-shirts, and programs, and stuff. :)
Now here's a guy after my own heart! A little bit of maple, a little bit of walnut, glue it, sand it, seal it and you've got yourself a really, really cool Space Invaders Cutting Board.
I'm the cook in my house, so I would love to have something like this in the kitchen. A video game themed kitchen would actually be very cool. Much cooler than the standard, typical flowers and country kitchen settings that we see all over. Why not go crazy in your kitchen or living room or whatever? It's your house right? If you want Mario hangin' from the ceiling who cares!
Wow, ok, well that might not be the best idea afterall, but still, this guy, Captain Sideburns' craftsmanship is top notch! He's already planning a Zelda Tri-force and folks are throwing in ideas for Mario etc..
Peter, you're looking to adopt a 30-something year old kid who wants to live in your basement and play video games all day long right? Yeah? I'm your man!
The documentary goes through Mike's layoff from his company the day before his wedding and how Dream Arcades became a reality for he and his wife along with offering some views of Mike's shop and what goes on behind the scenes.
I gotta hand it to Mike, it takes balls, especially in today's economy, to take the leap of faith that he did and start his own business for this industry. Kudo's to you and yours Mike!
MSN has a great bit up this week about Arcade Games making a comeback because of the 30/40 something generations buying up all the old cabinets like hotcakes and restoring them.
This really is no surprise to those of us who follow the hobby. Much like our fathers and granddads who bought, tinkered with, and restored classic cars, I'd have to say that Arcade Games are very similar to a MOPAR for us.
I think this sums it up best: "These old-school games might not have the best graphics," says videogame industry analyst Billy Pidgeon of IDC. "But the game mechanics are sound, and the game play is a lot better than many of today's new titles. That game play lets the players hold on to their youth."
Gamezone has a nice little blurb about Pinball Hall Of Fame: The Williams Collection being released for Wii, PS2 and PSP last week. I'm not sure that's entirely accurate as checking another source shows that just the Wii version was released last week, but hey, the others might be out there as well. Here's what Gamezone had to say:
"Pinball Hall of Fame - The Williams Collection faithfully recreates eight of the most memorable tables from the golden age of pinball in stunning, photorealistic 3D. Working closely with Williams to ensure authenticity of each of the games, the collection is highlighted by some of the most popular and innovative Williams pinball tables, including Gorgar, the first-ever talking pinball machine, Black Knight®, which introduced “Magna-Save(tm)” and Bonus Ball, and Space Shuttle(tm), which took the pinball industry by storm in 1984."
Nick Greeley, Tuesday, 04 March 2008 Via BostonHerald.com: "Two battling Boston moms face the next round in court after police say they turned on each other at a Chuck E. Cheese restaurant.
The fight allegedly broke out at the Natick pizza-and-play eatery during a child’s birthday party, police said.
Natick police said the mom of the 9-year-old birthday boy apparently became enraged because the other woman’s son was "hogging" an arcade game Saturday night."
I guess these mom's forgot to teach their kids the rule about lining up quarters on the machine to play your turn. I remember vividly lining up my quarters on different machines that I wanted to play all the while staring over the guy in front of me's shoulder and making him nervouse while he was playing a round of whatever game it was.
